Pat Day Bio

Pat Day’s jockey career was one of consistent success over the span of three decades. Day's professional career began in 1973, and he won a multitude of races and broke countless records until his retirement in 2005.

Day won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey four times (1984, ’86, ’87, ’91) throughout his decorated career and totaled an unthinkable 8,803 victories (22-percent win percentage). At the end of his career, Day earned over $297 million on the racetrack.

Triple Crown success was one of the hallmarks of Day's legendary career. As mentoined above, he is a three-time Belmont Stakes champion, while also winning the Kentucky Derby in 1992 and taking home the Preakness Stakes trophy an impressive five times.

A jockey is nothing without his horse, though, and day rode some of the best. His personal stable consisted of names like Awesome Again, Easy Goer, Cat Thief, Tabasco Cat and Sky Classic.

In honor of his prolific career and countless contributions to thoroughbred horse racing, Day was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1991.
